Tactile ground surface indicators (TGSI’s) are an innovative aid for the visually impaired and are required to be installed in accordance with Australian Standards 1428.4. TGSI systems have regulated installation requirements in most public areas such as pedestrian crossings, entrances, public transport systems, commercial buildings and public stairways. TGSI’s are made in a variety of materials including metal, polyurethane & ceramic. These are available in a variety of colours & metals

There are 2 types of Tactiles- Directional and Hazard - with many different designs and colours for each type of tactile. Both types of tactiles provide information to pedestrians but are mainly designed for persons with vision impairment. Directional tactiles are raised strips that provide pedestrians with a safe route to follow. While Hazard tactiles are a raised nodule that warns of danger (such as an oncoming roadway or stairs) but most importantly it provides the pedestrian with a warning of a change in direction. Tactiles can also enhance the visual appearance of your public space areas, as tactile systems should be designed to blend and beautify within the existing scheme.
